Over the past few weeks, we've been lucky enough to sit down with some of our very own. Read on to learn more about Louis Vuitton's incredibly talented in-house artisan, Melissa.
Melissa Estrada | Louis Vuitton's Artisan
My name is Melissa, I have been working for Louis Vuitton for 5 years now. I started in operations and transitioned to my current role as an artisan for the past 3 years. I received my college education at FIT in Fine arts and Art History. After graduating, instead of painting, I grew more interested in fashion and since then I have worked in sales in various brands to come full circle to rekindle a passion for painting at LV. One fun fact about me is that I used to play the flute and classical music for about 10 years. When I travel I enjoy sightseeing and visiting museums. At heart I’m a little nerdy.
Q: Growing up, what was your dream job?
A: Growing up my parents really honed in on cultivating my knack for drawing and creativity. Whenever asked this question my reply was “ I want to be an artist” I painted a pair of shoes for a peer. My current store director took notice and just by, right place at the right time, here I am today painting as an artisan for Louis Vuitton. I’m very grateful.
Q: What is your favorite styling tip/fashion hack?
A: As someone whose closet is purely black, white and denim, my favorite styling tip is to be bold with accessorizing. A statement earring, necklace or even a bold lip I think really turns an outfit around.
Q: If you could have lunch with one fashion icon…who would it be and why?
A: The first person that comes to mind for me is Zendaya. I feel like as young as she is she has accomplished so much and will continue to evolve into greater. She is someone who harnesses her creativity by exploring new avenues like her acting and fashion style. I really admire her work ethic.
Q: What is the best part about your position/working for Louis Vuitton?
A: In a world full of AI and graphic design I enjoy having a role that is so niche and somewhat traditional. Louis Vuitton takes pride in its savoir faire and craftsmanship. The foundation of LV started with trunk making and personalization. Being an artisan is an homage to its rich history and I’m glad to be a part of its evolution today. It's also a plus to see our clients happy with something I painted for them to pass down for generations to come.
Q: Style trends to look out for this Spring?
A: I anticipate that it may be a warm spring so look out for light textures like mesh, tulle, and chiffon.
